Films dont ruin novels, they misrepresent them. (Tibbetts and Welsh, 1999) Discuss the merits of the pen and pick out versions of The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx. hear the strengths and limitations of the shoot down adaptation from the novel. The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx is a composition of a sad, failed man called Quoyle who is an ink typesetter from New York who loses his parents (double suicide) and his two-timing wife (car accident) in a in brief amount of time. With cryptograph to lose, he attempts to move on and rediscover himself by locomote to an old family home in Newfoundland. The injection does grasp the primary story line of the novel just is sadly has limitations and weaknesses. The movie has altered many denotationistics of Quoyle. In the movie, he counts to be leaden and does not fit with e precisething expound in the book. This makes the story little tragic and less extreme. Quoyle primitively has two daughters in the novel, su nlight and bunny. In the movie, he provided has one daughter. The personalities of the two have been merged into one. The movie is too missing the white drop back that is seen by Bunny constantly in the book. This was an important function of the book as it was Bunnys fear that she conquered. Proulx describes Quoyle with a great break dance loaf of a body, burried beneath a casement of word form, head shaped like a Crenshaw, no neck, carmine hair ruched back. The look of this character is repulsive and tragic, Features as bunched as kissed fingertips. Eyes of the colour of plastic. The unreasonable chin, a eccentric shelf jutting from the lower face. The characterization of this character by Kevin spaced-out in the movie is very far from what was shown in the novel. There is not much funny about Spaceys quoyle. He is a quiet, boorish man with a soft voice who does not appear as scratchy as the book described.
